Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom!
As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country, we have an opportunity
to reflect on the many events that have shaped our history. We often learn about
the past through dates, places, and influential people—but history can also be
remembered in other meaningful ways.
Across generations, songs, art, and poetry have helped preserve the stories of
those who came before us. Many of us sing familiar tunes every day and can
easily recall our favorites, yet we don’t always pause to consider the stories
behind them. A poem inspired by a historical event can be set to music, just
as a painting can capture a powerful moment in time. Through reenactments,
sculptures, architecture, and even the artistic design of everyday objects, history
comes alive in vivid and memorable ways.
Celebrate our nation’s birthday while studying the songs, poems, and art
inspired by America’s history and, in some cases, the arts that inspired history.
Create meaningful memories with your children as you grow together in
understanding, deepen your appreciation for our shared story, and experience
the rich artistic expressions that bring history to life.
